what is the best year STI 6-speed to use for a swap?

Our Question of the Week this week is one that we have received a number of times which is, what is the best year STI 6-speed to use for a swap?

If you have looked at the kits on our website, you will notice that we use the 2007 STI 6-speed, and there are a few reasons for that.  The main one being that it is the most versatile because it is easy to install into a WRX all the way back to 2002, and all the way up to 2014.

It is also the least expensive new 6-speed, and it has some of the best features as well.

But what this question really boils down to is whether it is cheaper to find a used transmission compared to purchasing a new one?

And what about some of the early STI transmissions that don't have the DCCD center differential?

Or the Spec-B transmission for that matter?

That is what we address in this Question of the Week.
