About Us

We’re a small, family-owned business situated in the shadow of the Flatirons mountains in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. We started in 2004 as a small addition to the parts department at Flatirons Subaru, with Scott Crouch and Jon Cooley slowly expanding the operation.

In 2015, Flatirons Tuning grew out of the parts department and moved into our own building, complete with a showroom and a shop to service our race cars. Our storefront has been open since then to provide customers with on-demand help for their parts and questions.

Our team is comprised of Jon, Viet, Mike S, Dylan, Mike M, and Wyatt. Everyone here has a project car or a race car, so we all value the building process. We take pride in ensuring that you get the parts and help that you need. We all take on every aspect of the job, from keeping our website up-to-date, taking care of the paperwork, and packing and shipping. If you place an order with us, you can be sure that it’s been checked out by many sets of experienced eyes.

Meet the Owner

Scott began the Flatirons Tuning race team by co-driving for Tanner Foust in 2004 in Rally America. He and Tanner competed in the Rally America series through 2006, taking 2nd in the championship before Tanner’s departure. In 2007 Scott co-drove with Stephan Verdier in a newly prepared 2004 WRX, until their final full season together in 2009.

In 2010, Scott switched roles to begin driving competitively, starting with Rally Colorado and competing in several Rally America events each year.

In 2014, Scott and the Flatirons Tuning team built a new 2014 WRX dedicated to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Since then, he has taken multiple top-3 finishes and completed the mountain run in less than 11 minutes, knocking on the door of class wins.

With our love of motorsport, we continue to expand upon our years of experience in rally racing, hill climb, time attack, circuit racing, and running in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

Our story began in 2004 running a WRX rally car in the Rally America series. We learned a lot quickly and in 2005 our car won the National Championship in the PGT class. By 2006, our car had finished 2nd overall.

In 2010 we started to campaign annually in the prestigious Pikes Peak International Hill climb, claiming 3 top-10 finishes in Time Attack 1. We broke down the 11-minute barrier in 2020 and are continuing to improve each year.

We are proud to be represented by several local racers as part of our Flatirons Syndicate. Our goal is to make sure they have the parts, knowledge, and support that they need to have a successful race event.

Jon Cooley

Jon is at the root of Flatirons Tuning. His 2003 Sonic Yellow WRX was the original Flatirons Tuning project car. Jon’s time and effort were the driving force that Flatirons Tuning needed to become what it is today. It all started with Jon organizing Flatirons Tuning Track Days, writing a blog about our endeavors, and producing technical videos and content to provide even more useful information to our customers. Jon still brings out his 2003 WRX to drive in the Rocky Mountain NASA HPDE3 class.

Jon manages and writes our blog, so take a look at that here.

Mike Sebald

Mike has been obsessed with cars and all things therein since he was a teenager and bought his first one. A 1978 Lincoln Continental Town Coupe’, with a carburetor, and distributor, and all of 180 horsepower. Later on he got into track days with his friends and their Evo’s and STi’s along with the myriad of cars that were amazing at handling, and or accelerating. Fast forward to 2006 when he bought his 2004 Subaru Forester, a true gateway into the epicness of all things wagon. Since then it has gone through many transformations, including but not limited to a front mount intercooler, 6 speed swap, and brembo brakes, leading to the name Platypus which is now his nickname in the shop. Dylan Brennan

Growing up in a family that always had Subarus, naturally Dylan’s first car was a 1998 Forester L bought from family friends with 260 thousand miles. He learned a lot of what he knows from working on the various old Subarus around him and budget rally projects. Slowly he moved up through the ranks of Subaru ownership, 90s chassis, GD chassis and now Dylan owns a white 2011 Hatch. A connoisseur of spun bearings, make sure to ask about his experience with rod knock in two cars in 2 months. Follow along with Dylanhere.

Mike Morten

Mike grew up in a motorsports family with his dad working on crews at Indy, building winning dirt car engines and racing Midgets all over the western US. His family eventually started a motorsports supply company in Denver,CO and took over a engine parts manufacturing company working with all types of race teams. Mike caught the car bug early and his first car was a 1968 Chevelle that he still has and is currently going through a full restoration and a possible conversion to EV. His love of Subarus came from watching rally and playing Gran Tursimo so when the WRX was announced for the US he immediately ordered one. Ever since that first Silver Bugeye Wagon he has owned a 04 Forester XT, 01 Forester, 98 RS, 05 Legacy GT Wagon, 99 Legacy Wagon, and now is back in a Bugeye Wagon. He also raced a very slow 95 Legacy Sedan in Lemons and Chump Car for a few seasons with a group of pirates. Follow along with Mikehere.

WyattFair

Wyatt is a Denver native that has been all about things that move since he was born. Semi trucks, trains, planes and tractors all still get him excited. Cars, however, captivated him more than anything. Through Need For Speed, the rumble, and a particular conversation that was had with a friend in the back of his science class in 6th grade, Subarus became the ultimate vehicle to him. His mind became set on swapping a GC shortly after that, bought a 2001 2.5RS Sedan for his first car and did light modifications through high school. After graduating, Wyatt worked in a hot rod shop building and painting cars during the week and race teams on the weekends, as well as having multiple adventures with broken Subarus thousands of miles from home. This built the skills and confidence needed to make the swap happen with the help of his accumulated tools, friends and contacts. Wyatt bought his brother’s clapped out 2002 WRX Wagon and swapped everything into the pretty Aspen White RS. Finished in December of 2019, the car ran strong as a daily driver with occasional track days at 300whp with full bolt-ons until it was stolen and crashed in April of 2022. As a result, he bought another green 1997 Impreza L with a blown up 2.2, automatic transmission and tan interior. This new car now has all the WRX swap parts, including merged wiring harnesses, engine, transmission, subframes and fuel tank, plus the black interior from the RS, a black headliner and black carpet. Completed in August of 2022, it’s not half as pretty as his old car yet but he still loves every moment with his GC. Follow along with Wyatthere.
