Salta Motorsports is a shop in Denver that has been servicing Volkswagen's and Audi's for well over a decade. But we have known Steven Bis, one of the owners and head technicians for a long time because Salta had an STI rally car for a number of years, and Steve then went on to run an Open Lights Impreza rally car as well.

But now he has found a car that falls well within his shops specialty, and that offer's some really interesting possibilities in terms of performance, this 2016 Golf R. In a lot of ways, the Golf R comes standard with everything that you would want in a rally car. A dual clutch transmission, a turbo that makes lots of power, and an all-wheel drive drive-train.

With Steve's rally roots, this is exactly the direction that he wants to go with this car.

The first thing the car needed was a turbo, and that is where we were able to help him find the Tomioka IHX475 turbo kit that looks like it fits exactly what he is looking for. It is a stock replacement turbo that is just slightly larger than stock. That will come in handy when he has to put a restrictor in front of it to meet the ARA Rally rules requirements.

For this video, we put the car on the dyno just to make sure that the car was running safely with the new turbo, and to see how much power it makes. Now that we have a baseline, work can start on turning this car into a full Rally car with a cage, etc.

Steve also let us in on some of the interesting challenges that the Golf R poses in terms of making it into a fully functional rally car, and a lot of them are electrical. It turns out that with all the cool features that comes in the Golf R, it also comes with some complex technology.

This is going to be a really interesting build, and we can't wait to see how it turns out!

Thanks for watching, and Stay Tuned!

Big thanks to Steve from Salta Motorsports, and Harvey from The Boostcreep for helping put this project together!
