Racer Dave: About Our Team

Racer Dave Rally Racing started with a couple friends who bought $500 Subarus so they could go slide them around in the dirt and have some fun rallycrossing. I went out just to ride along and ended out with an opportunity to drive that I couldn't pass up. In the beginning we got beat pretty badly but by the end of the year I won a few events in the stock AWD class. That same year I met a new friend who took the risk of letting me codrive for him at some hill climbs and a rally which worked out amazing. After this first year I was totally hooked and just wanted to drive faster. The next logical step was to race a hill climb but I would have to take a huge leap from the $500 cars and build a proper race car with a roll cage, race seats and all the safety gear. What better car to start with than my daily driver? The hardest part was just starting to tear into it but once it was stripped I had so much fun building it and I continue to build it to this day. I would also need a codriver so I asked my brother if he wanted to join me and he jumped at the chance. After one season of hill climbs I knew it was time to step it up even bigger and try my first national rally!

Until you've done it, it's impossible to know how much of an accomplishment it is and how amazing you feel just to complete your first rally. In 2017 we competed in our first rally at The Rally in the 100 Acre Wood and we finished 3rd in class. We couldn't believe what we'd done and we were so excited to have made it to the finish. A few months later, we had a nasty crash at a hill climb that badly wrecked the car and broke my brothers back in two places. I thought I was done rallying but my brother said he was willing to get back in the car with me as soon as he healed so I became determined to get us ready to race Rally Colorado in two months. Not only did we complete our 2nd rally ever but we became the first people in history to win a national rally overall in a small displacement naturally aspirated car. My excitement grew with every race and I wanted to experience all that rally had to offer so I committed to running the entire Rally America National Championship in 2018. During the 8 race season we won our second national event overall, set multiple new records, won our class championship and became the only people in history to win the Overall National Championship in a small displacement naturally aspirated car. It's safe to say we fully experienced rally!

The 2018 season took an unbelievable amount of hard work, dedication and commitment that few will ever begin to understand. For 2019 I plan to experience more of what rally has to offer and do it with less pressure to race at all cost so we can have more fun. I plan on racing at least two totally new events and I won't attend an event unless the car is fully prepared. The current plan is to race the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood, the Idaho Rally, Rally Colorado and the Ojibwe Forests Rally with options to run a couple more. Along the way I will continue to develop the car along with my driving skills to see just how fast we can go. On top of the rallys we will also likely race at least one hill climb to get back to our racing roots and I also have an amazing opportunity to experience my first road course event as part of a four man endurance racing team. 2019 is going to be a ton of fun and I hope to see you out at the races!
