Our reactions to the 2022 WRX

At long last, Subaru has finally revealed all of the details about the new 2022 WRX. The two big details confirmed are that the new WRX will have the FA24DIT engine making 271 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, and the 6-speed manual transmission will still be available.

What we didn't know until this reveal is that there is a newly revised trim level of the WRX, the WRX GT, that will come with a lot of up-grades over the standard WRX, such as Recaro seats, electronically controlled suspension, and a SPT (Subaru Performance Transmission) that is a new high performance version of the CVT transmission that has been available in the WRX since 2015.

The other very interesting change coming to the WRX in 2022 is an electronically controlled waste-gate for the turbocharger. This, combined with the extra displacement of the engine, promises a much broader torque curve than the previous WRX had. All of these changes are on a new "World Platform" chassis that is both longer and wider than the outgoing WRX.

As many answers as we got today, we still have some questions, and given that the 2022 WRX is getting a healthy bump in displacement, but not as much in power or torque, what does this mean for the soon to be revealed 2022 STI? With so much to discuss, we decided to capture that discussion for the channel so you could hear what our initial impressions were.

Thanks for watching, and Stay Tuned!
