2019 Grid Life Alpine Horizon Fest Rundown

Grid Life added a new event to their calendar for 2019, and it just happened to be right here in Colorado. The Grid Life Alpine Horizon event was held at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colorado, and we decided to see what Grid Life was all about.

2019 Grid Life

For this event, Grid Life brought out just about every form of motorsport you could ever want: they were doing HPDE, Time Attack, Wheel-to-Wheel racing, Rally Sprints, and Drifting as well. On Sunday, they also did a track sprint.

Our own Scott Musgrove took the Flatirons Tuning Pikes Peak WRX to the event, and Viet and Frances Phan took their Civic race car to the event. Jeanette of Red Queen Racing was there with her BRZ, and Ryan Dussex from DSX Motorsports was going to bring out his freshly built WRX too.

Francis drove his Civic in HPDE, and it was very well run. Grid Life brought several instructors to help people that were driving in this group because it is not competitive and is more of a track-day or practice. He had never driven at PPIR in this configuration, so having a lot of good input from a couple of instructors helped a lot.

Scotty drove the Pikes Peak car in Track Mod Time Attack. The Grid Life Time Attack classes are competitive, but we realized pretty quickly that the build of our Pikes Peak car wasn't an ideal fit for the Track Mod class. But with that being said, the track was a lot of fun, and the challenge of going fast on a banked corner was also a lot of fun.

Jeanette of Red Queen Racing was trying out a new suspension set-up with custom Feal 442 Coilovers and Voodoo Thirteen lower control arms. She really liked them and was a second faster on her initial session with the new suspension. Through the course of the weekend, she ended up shaving 3 seconds off her previous personal best time which is very impressive.

From a competitor standpoint, this event had it all. It was a well-run event that got you a good deal of track time, and when you weren't on track or working on your car, there was no shortage of cool stuff to do or watch. Everyone had a ton of fun, and we hope that Grid Life will come back again next year!
