In 2006, Jon bought this gently used bugeye WRX to begin a project car series for us here at Flatirons Tuning. Little did he know it would become a beloved icon at the center of our shop.

Jon has carefully documented the entire process of modifying his bugeye through extensive write-ups and videos over on our Knowledge Hub. We have videos ranging from his first track day in the car in 2006 up to the recent 6-speed swap and DCCD testing. If you haven't had a chance to check out everything there, we highly recommend it. The majority of our knowledge comes from testing parts and ideas on this car, and we owe a lot to it!

Ingredients

• Engine

Jon installed a complete non-AVCS EJ255 long block into his wagon early on to prove that you didn't have to run the traditional hybrid build for bugeyes that wanted more displacement.

• Cooling

One of the tests we ran with all of our Subarus here starting with this one is the capless radiator, relying solely on the expansion tank. Jon also stuck with the top-mount intercooler, but did upgrade to an RCM water pump.

• Suspension

All of our suspension components are normal, off-the-shelf products anyone can get. This is probably the area of our car that is closest to stock, with most parts providing a necessary strength upgrade or the ability to better align the car.
